Summary

Music Library #670 - 675

Welcome to the new year and I'm kicking it off with six new additions to my Music Library. This is the earliest start since 2006, when January 1st saw that year's first four entries, an obvious record that will never be broken. 54 different artists land tracks on ML #670 - 675, including nine artists for the first time, and the return of Roxy Music after a 26-year hiatus...   One of the new artists is Lowercase Noises, who is the musical brainchild of Andy Othling, a multi-instrumentalist, producer and artist from Albuquerque, NM. All programming and composition on Lowercase Noises' albums are performed by Andy, with exception of the occasional guest musician or vocalist. Seven compositions from four different albums and EP's are highlighted, which ties Zero Cult with the most tracks added. Zero Cult is the project of Emil Ilyayev from Israel, who has been producing electronic music for well over a decade. Seven new songs from Vacuum (released late last year), help him move into the Top 100 of my Top Artist list. As is usually the case for my first batch of entries of the new year, almost all of the adds are from 2011 product, except for a few exceptions...   A remix of Roxy Music's "Avalon" from a two-year old remix album, helps the English art rock band shatter the record for the longest gap between appearances on my Music Library. The last song to enter was "The Main Thing" on Music Library #54, back in 1986. That's 618 entries in between, the next closest is Bob Geldof, with 577 entries between appearances. Roxy Music should be able to hang on to that record for awhile. Two other artists are coming out of a long retirement, including This Mortal Coil, who last appeared in 1993, return with Neil Young's "We Never Danced" (ML #670). Also, The Cranberries are back together and "Tomorrow" (ML #673) is taken from their upcoming album Roses. Thirteen years have come and gone since they had any new material...   Besides Lowercase Noises, the other eight new artists include Access To Arakasa, The Chromatics, with another track from the Drive/Soundtrack, VCMG, who are actually Vince Clarke and Martin Gore (both who are no stranger to my Music Library). Cloud Castle and Marsheaux yield one track apiece to enter the party, while Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song" gets "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" treatment by Karen O, who officially is listed under the moniker, Karen O with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. That film also spawned another remake, "Is Your Love Strong Enough?" by How To Destroy Angels, which is a musical group featuring Trent Reznor, his wife Mariqueen Maandig and Atticus Ross. For the record, they are counted as a separate artist from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, due to the addition of Reznor's wife into the mix. Finally, MOTOR (yes, all Caps), has opened for Depeche Mode during their last tour, which explains why their lone addition, "Man Made Machine" (ML #672), features Martin L. Gore... Two more tracks from Above & Beyond's Group Therapy album from 2011, is just enough to give the English trance band 176 points, the current minimum to make it on my Top 200 artist list. Two "Best of" tracks kicked it just past Sigur Ros, who fall off for now, but most likely will be back in the future... Quick notes: 34 artists increase their point totals on my Top Artist chart, even though many kept their position. Kate Bush moves to #42 with five more selections from 50 Words For Snow. "Wild Man" appeared late last year. Madonna gives us a sneak peek of her new album due out in March. "Masterpiece" leads off ML #672. Air also gives us a taste of their upcoming album based on the 1902 French film A Trip To The Moon. If "Seven Stars" (ML #673) is any indication of what the rest of the new album is going to sound like, Le Voyage Dans La Lune could suck even worse than their 2009 album Love 2. "Aces High" by Ladytron is an instrumental version of "Ace Of Hz" (ML #631)... For the complete listing of my six latest entries, check above this summary...
